Lucas was born with pregnancy toxoplasmosis and weighed only 900 grams. Now, Lucas is 17 years old, 170 cm in height, and lives happily and healthily in Paraguay. He survived through the “60 Days free Infant Incubator Project” sponsored by STUF United Fund’s affiliate NGO Fundacion Para LA Salud Los Angeles Paraguay-China.
The cost of an infant incubator is $300 USD per day, and in 1999, the monthly base salary in Paraguay was $350. If Lucas stayed in the hospital for 60 days, the cost would have been $18,000 USD. Without the Foundations’ help, families such as Lucas’ would have no other choice but to give up his life.
